Bathroom lighting

Clean, shadow-free light for the mirror

Bathrooms are wet zones that also need very good face lighting. Light the face from both sides — never from above only.

How bright?

60

lumens per sq ft (range 40–80)

A typical 6 × 8 ft room needs about 2,880 lm.

What colour?

3000–4000K

Target 3000K

Use IP44+ rated lights in wet zones.

Quick tips

  • Check IP ratings: IP44 for splash zones, IP65 inside the shower.
  • Use 3000–4000K with 90+ CRI for accurate skin tones.
  • Flank the mirror with lights — avoid one light above it.

Layers

Three layers make a great room

01

Ambient light

A sealed (IP44+) ceiling light or shower-rated downlights.

02

Task light

Vanity lights either side of the mirror at eye level.

03

Accent light

A toe-kick or mirror-halo strip adds a spa feel.
